Terms of service
Transparency is part of care. These terms describe how therapeutic work with me functions, what you can expect, and the basic agreements that make a space of trust possible. Read them at your own pace; if you have any questions, write to me at patricio@inessentia.mx.
Scope of service
I offer individual, couples, and family therapy, in person in Colonia Nápoles, Mexico City, or online via Zoom or an equivalent platform.
Patricio Ruiz Abrín trained as an architect (UNAM) and is a body-centered therapist, trained in Somatic Experiencing, Core Energetics, IFS and EFT, with a master's degree in Systemic Family Therapy (Instituto Crisol) and a specialization in couples therapy in progress. The support he offers does not constitute psychotherapy within the meaning of Article 25 of the Mental Health Law of Mexico City (Ley de Salud Mental de la Ciudad de México), nor psychology, psychiatry, or medical care, and does not replace medical, psychiatric, or psychological treatment. No clinical diagnoses are issued and no clinical records are kept. In the event of an emergency or a condition requiring medical or psychiatric attention, the client will be referred to the appropriate resource.
This service is not an emergency or acute crisis resource. If you're experiencing a mental health emergency, please go to your nearest emergency services or contact the Línea de la Vida: 800 911 2000 (Mexico, available 24/7).
This work also doesn't replace psychiatric treatment when that's needed. In those cases, I work in coordination with the medical team caring for you.
Frame and service agreements
Frequency and duration. Sessions last 50 to 55 minutes. Frequency — weekly or every two weeks — is agreed together from the first session, based on your needs and circumstances.
Punctuality. Session time is fixed. If you arrive late, the session ends at the scheduled time; time is not made up or extended.
Cancellations and rescheduling. If you need to cancel or change your appointment, let me know at least 24 hours in advance. Cancellations with less than 24 hours' notice are charged in full, regardless of reason. This protects the time reserved for you and for other clients.
Payments. Payment is made at the start of each session, or through whatever arrangement we agree on. Available payment methods are confirmed directly with me.
Confidentiality and its exceptions
Everything you share in session is strictly confidential. I don't share information about your process with anyone without your express authorization.
The only exceptions to this confidentiality are:
- Imminent risk of harm: if there's a real and immediate danger to your life or someone else's, I may take steps to protect that safety.
- Legal obligation: situations where the law requires me to report, such as cases of child abuse.
- Court order: if formally required by a judge.
In couples or family therapy, everything shared in the joint space is confidential among participants. I don't carry information from individual sessions over to other members of the system without your consent.
Communication outside of session
The main channel for coordinating appointments is WhatsApp or email. I don't offer therapeutic support through text messages or email; that space exists in session. If something urgent comes up between appointments, we can arrange an additional meeting.
Changes to these terms
I may update these terms from time to time. When I do, I'll let you know in advance. Continuing to use the service after a notification means you accept the changes.
